Art practice. Steps and process to building your artistic style. Values are easily taught starting in a Black to white gray scale, seeing the values clearly. Start with your photograph. Go to edit, Select the filter "Noir" A reduced amount of values in black and white. Print the image to use as a reference, select an 8x10 canvas, black and white paint. Mix your gray tones, adjust as needed to get as close to the values as the reference. Training the eye to see the variation. The further back in the image the strength of the value should decrease ( whites less white and blacks less black) keeping the darkest darks and brightest whites in the foreground creates depth.

I had to scratch back the paint, and remove as much as I could to redefine the highlights and the shadows of this little hand. The video starts with my first marks to the completion. I enjoy working with wet on wet and moving the paint around sometimes blending right on the canvas. A small clip of my process.
